The Artist

Snorting Pig's Background

Snorting Pig is a Music Producer, Song Writer, Rock Artist, Record Label and Live Events Agent based at Pigsty Studios in Maidenhead, Berkshire, UK.

Once the lead vocalist of punk-influenced Coventry rock band, Random Access, in the 1970s and 80s, David Shimell first used the name Snorting Pig in 2005 while acting as an Independent Music Critic, publishing reviews and promotions for various live artists. He has a long history of supporting the live music scene in London, The Midlands and The Home Counties over the last 30 years.

Also appearing regularly on interactive Radio stations based out of  New York, in 2009, Snorting Pig became known on both sides of the Atlantic and this UK/USA southern rock and country influence is evident in the sound we hear today, both in Snorting Pig’s own songs, as well as those of VeryT who is signed to the Snorting Pig label.

Snorting Pig's debut album "XCentric Pig" was released in November 2025 containing 14 self-written tracks of incredible quality, half of which are heavy rock and the other half, considered as soft-rock ballads.

Snorting Pig's second album "Smell The Bacon" was released in April 2026, contraining another 14 stonking tracks, one a rework of Random Access's "Losing My Mind" and the rest, all brand new originals.

Snorting Pig's 3rd album "No Sausage, No Sizzle" was released in July 2026, containing 14 tracks written while visiting Northern Vietnam for a month, at the beginning of the year. Tracks such as "Driftwood Beach", "Sand and Sound" and "Stranded in Paradise" tell tales of beautiful deserted beaches near Hoi An, while Get Back Home is set in valleys near Sa Pa close to the Chinese border, that suffered great losses during the Vietnam war in the 1960s and 70s. Some of its lyrics refer to the Iran crisis that had just kicked off in February and lyrics for Life Behind Bars and "What's Yet To Come" were inspired by shop signs in Hanoi and Sa Pa respectively.

Snorting Pig's debut single "Devil's Blowhole" was released globally on December 5th 2025, telling the "true" story of two monsters in the beautiful village of Boscastle in Cornwall, UK. A monster from above which devasted the harbour town in 2004 and a monster from below which delights visitors today when the tide goes down.

A "not-for-profit" YouTube video to accompany Devil's Blowhole has been created thanks to content contributions from 3rd parties, either through paid for licences, creative commons licences, or attributions as listed on this website. All donations or profits made from the YouTube video will go to The National Trust at Boscastle, Charity Number: 205846. Snorting Pig herby wishes to thank those that helped create the video and expresses its sorrow to those who suffered loss in the dramatic storm of 2004, not only at Boscastle itself, but in nearby villages, including the beautiful Crackington Haven. Let's all do our best to combat climate change now and in the future.

The full-length YouTube video of "No One Cares" amassed over 100,000 views in its first month. It's hard hitting lyrics are aimed at politicians and their apathy towards those suffering in Ukraine and Gaza in particular, but carries a stark warning that nuclear holocaust is a grim reality, especially when those in control, of our destiny are more interested in their own power and greed, rather than the vast majority of us who just want to live happy lives.

Track by Track Inspirations (alphabetical order across all albums)

Most Snorting Pig songs tell a story. Usually about a real place you can visit or a legend you can read about. Lyrics contain NO bad language and are all fully suitable for children of all ages. Videos are clean although may contain hard-hitting political or social messages and some parents or guardians may wish to restrict access to videos and lyrics containing alcohol, drugs, tobacco, betting, weapons or destruction, although usage of such material is vetted and regarded as no worse than seen on primetime TV.

Cold Beer And Whiskey - A look back on two great parties at home; one in 2009 for our joint 50th birthdays and the other in 2022 for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee. Appreciating the support of family and friends in Maidenhead, High Wycombe, Bristol, Preston, North Wales and Warrington. Memories of Vanessa remembered with fondness and love. Southern Rock styled guitar track with powerful rhythm

Devil's Blowhole - The tale of two "monsters" in Boscastle, Cornwall, England - (1) the monster above, the 2004 flood which devastated the village and livelihoods and (2) the existing natural "devil's bellows" phenomenon and visitor attraction near the harbour.

Don't Go Home - Outlines that you should never look back when you're on to a good thing. Have a clear plan and stick to it. Appreciate there will be difficulties along the way but don't give up or simply do a U-turn.

Driftwood Beach -  Another beautiful ballad capturing the beauty of An Gang beach.

Fear The Dip - A heavy rock song about the legend of a town called Pratdip in Spain (Iberia). An evil  vampire dog known as "The Dip" is depicted on the town’s crest and its story is told online, as well as in a visitor trail around the town. It also features on a bottle of “black red” bloodthirsty wine called The Dip, the original inspiration for this unique song. Based on Tempranillo, Garnacha Tintorera is sold via Laithwaites Wine, part of Direct Wines. While red wines are traditionally bottled in green or dark glass, "The Dip" unusually comes in a transparent bottle to reveal – glass by glass – a ‘nightmarish illustration of the devil dog’ on the reverse of the back label.

Get Back Home -  The valleys of the very north of Vietnam are beautiful yet potentially deadly. War-time mines are still to be cleared in some of the valleys and Agent Orange which decimated the entire region still leaves residue of its poison for generations to come. So hiking alone, sticking to the well trodden country paths had a huge fascination, as did the incredible cable-car ride from Sa Pa to the "rooftop of Indo China". The song is about the beauty of the valleys today and at the time of writing, capturing the confusion as to whether we'd ever "get back home" given the flight and airport disruptions in the Middle East.

Hall of the Gory Head - A dark and heavy rock song about the legend of ghostly happenings at an old Manor House, Mowbreck Hall, near Kirkham in Lancashire. First built in the 1100’s and rebuilt in 1730, it was boarded up and fenced off after a fire in the 1960s and demolished in 1979 to make way for today’s caravan park. Legend has it that the head of George Haydock without his (hung, drawn and quartered) torso appears above ground periodically. Snorting Pig’s exaggerated version is the first time it’s story has appeared in a published rock song. Articles about Snorting Pig's song appeared in Lancashire Evening Post and Blackpool Gazette in December 2025. The story goes like this.....

In the parish of Wesham, just north of Kirkham on the Fylde, once stood the proud home of the Westby family; Mowbreck Hall on Mowbreck Lane. The Westbys were related by marriage to the Haydocks of Cottam, Preston, ardent Catholics, two of whom, William and George Haydock, were hanged for practicing their faith in 1536 and 1584 respectively. .On the Feast of All Hallows Eve 1583, Vivian Haydock (George’s father) was stood before the altar ready to conduct midnight Mass. Unknown to him, his son George was at the same time being arrested in London, having been betrayed by a local Fylde man. As he began to say Mass, Father Vivian saw to his horror a ghostly manifestation of his beloved son’s head floating above the altar, severed, bruised and bleeding, blood trickling from his lips as they muttered the words ‘Tristitia Vestra Vertetur in Gaudium’  (Your sadness is turning to joy). The priest collapsed and not long afterwards died of shock. George was confined to the London Tower dungeons and executed the following year. His head was preserved and up to recently kept as a sacred relic in the attic chapel at Lane End House, Mawdesley, Chorley, Lancashire, a 16th century house on the edge of the village, otherwise known as “The Skull House”. This picture of the skull in a glass case is from 1906. In 1979, Mowbreck Hall was demolished, but to this day paranormal investigators still visit its former site hoping to capture on film the manifestation of George Haydock’s ghostly head floating above the lane, reputedly witnessed by local residents over the years.

Hanging Down The Harbour - Inspired by Brixham Harbour in Devon; the English Riviera. Reflecting on the "tough guys" there; the rival fishermen, their stories, their actions and their heroic journeys out to sea to catch fish for us to enjoy. Quayside banter, local bars, the fish market, passing the Isles of Scilly heading towards the Irish & USA shores in all weathers using boats they've had to finance not really knowing they'll get a payback. Saying they're going to give it up, but finding themselves doing it one more day, with pride, prepared to make a strong stance against French fishermen entering their waters or playing the EU loopholes.

Heading Back North - A sunset drive from Berkshire to Lancashire at high speed on the M6 in a powerful car, keeping an eye out for police. It suggests a difference between southerners and northerners in terms of friendliness. Heading towards The Trough of Bowland and Lake District but stopping off at "home" in Preston who's port provided a solid financial footing for the lyricist's family, through Shimell's Ship Chandlers in Wellington Road, Ashton on Ribble. Also featured in the track "Sailing The Irish Sea".

High on Life -  Written by Pig to reflect the freedom of the open roads of the Northern of Vietnam. Two versions of the song exist; one a male/female duet with VeryT and the other, a female-only version by VeryT on her "Arrived on a Breeze" album.

Highway To Destiny - Making plans to make best use of your limited time on earth regardless of whether you've been dealt a good or a bad card on your journey through life.

How Much You Care -  Having more spare time means more freedom to roam and explore. It also comes at a price for those loved ones back home. This powerful rock ballad captures feelings between those separated by continents.

In The Papers -  Crap headlines appearing in all the international newspapers, on the airports of Vietnam, relating to the Iran crisis, were the fodder for this simple song which some have alikened to "Simply Red" (very apt given that it is about the press selling us exaggerated hype that is simply written and simply read. Why do we buy it?

Into The Stratosphere - A powerful and anthemic duet with VeryT outlining the bond between the two artists, moving on from their past struggles and being optimistic about life ahead.

Life Behind Bars -  Sitting in a back street bar in Hanoi, a motorcycle hire dealership opposite was named Life Behind Bars. Its logo features at the beginning of the YouTube video and a shot of the front of the run-down premises towards the end.

Long Cold Nights - Sometimes you need companionship, whether that be on cold winter's nights, on a holiday or when facing difficulties. This can be lost once a loved one is gone, but friendships can help fill the void.

Losing My Mind (ft. Random Access) - A heavier version of the Random Access song "Happily Losing My Mind" which appears on the album "Memories of Holbrooks Bowl", written and recorded in 1982 at Holbrooks Infant and Junior School, Coventry and remixed/released over forty years later, in 2025.

Never Be Alone -  One of two versions of this song. This one a male-only love ballad with the other being a duet with VeryT on her "Arrived on a Breeze" album.

No One Cares - A hard-hitting rock song criticising politicians of all parties for caring about their own power and greed rather than the good of those that are suffering through the ravages of war. The song points out that the majority of populations want to simply live a long, healthy and free life rather than be dragged into power and ego struggles of their leaders, most of which they didn't personally vote for and who aren't held legally accountable for their promises or actions.

Oblivious To Oblivion - Looking out from Sandgate near Folkstone in Kent on the Dungeness Nuclear Power Station inspired this song which explores the dangers of atomic radiation in the aftermath of disasters at Fukushima and Chernobyl, and increasing concerns about care for such facilities as dictators and leaders become preoccupied with military power and budgets rather than public safety.

Outrun The Waves -  Set in Folkstone, Kent, UK one week before embarking for Vietnam; it reflects the busy quaysides there and the adjoining beach on UK shores, but the song itself was penned while away in Hoi An.

Ride The Buffalo -  A "tongue-in-cheak" light-hearted rock song on the end of the album. It refer to the Water Buffalo that live in the rice fields between Hoi An and An Gang Beach. Some local man is now making money out of letting you stop your car, to be pictured with the wild beasts. Smaller guests can even "ride the buffalo" although Snorting Pig and the Buffalo didn't get that friendly.

Stranded in Paradise -  An Gang beach; the setting for Pig's depiction of the potential escalation of the US/Iran crisis and being stranded on a paradise island off Vietnam, with a beautiful lady, for evermore.

Sad Daydreams -  This rock ballad is a fictitious one about an on/off relationship which is stronger on one side than the other.

Sand and Sound - The beautiful An Gang beach between Da Nang and Hoi An captured Pig's imagination for 3 songs on the "No Sausage, No Sizzle" album, this being one.

Sailing The Irish Sea - An easy-listening song about sailing to The Republic of Ireland (Eire), County Antrim in Northern Ireland or Douglas (Isle of Man). Inspired by the Transport Ferry service that once served Dublin, Belfast and Larne from the Port of Preston aboard the MV Bardic, Ionic and Doric ferries which headed west out to sea via the River Ribble. Also to commemorate the sad fate of the SS Manxman and other steam packet vessels who sailed this sea along with the Titanic built at Harland and Wolf's yard in Belfast before its fateful voyage towards New York via France and Cork.

Scream Tomorrow - A heavy rock song depicting of the struggles of those who inwardly scream for help after the loss of a loved one. Reflecting on their memories, their dreams, plans and hopes that will never be fulfilled. A personal reflection by the lyricist on the sudden loss of his wife, Vanessa in November 2021.

Set To Implode - A look at the current state of politics in the UK, the loss of its trade, its power and glory and the confusion of its people and leaders. How AI availability globally is going to cause a financial implosion in the forthcoming years suggesting that the London stock market is just a gamble of win or lose.

Them Or Us? - A reflection on the sad "namby pamby" society we now live in. Over-protecting our children but accepting no responsibility for the lives we have created. Luxury, comfort, financial borrowing, scare-media and perceived lack of time are often cited as excuses or reasons for the lack of quality time with our families. Blaming others is easier than blaming yourself.

The Past Never Dies - The loss of a loved one is tragic. Reflecting on how the relationship started and the beautiful memories gained along the way.

Twilight Of Dreams - Making time for new dreams and new memories with a special friend, despite the losses and turmoil of the past. There can be light at the end of the dark tunnel but sometimes you have to find it.

Traitor's Glen - Depicted as an evil place where nobody should venture after dark but is actually inspired by the beautiful and enchanting waterfall at St. Nectan’s Glen, arguably one of the most serene and spiritual visitor attractions in the whole of the UK where water cascades 60 feet through a naturally formed hole in the rock, plunging into the deep basin known as the Kieve

Warm Desert Wind -  A lovely warm day in Tam Koc Golden Fields near Ninh Binh was Snorting Pig's inspiration for this one having travelled from an ice cold UK climate in February to the tropical 30 degree warmth of the rice fields of North Vietnam.

Was It Always This Dark - Waking up on a dark cold morning in Autumn 2025 and reflecting on my long hard-working career with the prospect of retirement ahead. Looking forward to my new life ahead with struggles of the past now behind me.

What's Yet To Come -  A sign-written shop window in the centre of Sa Pa reads "Black as the Devil, Hot as Hell" coincided with a heavily-tattoo'd "bad girl" walking past. She looked like she'd had quite a life, yet had very pretty features and the song is about her making a new successful life for herself.

Wild Dictators - Aimed as a political statement against the military actions in Russia, Ukraine, North Korea, China, USA, Iran, Israel, Palestine. Leaders keeping score, playing for power rather than harmonising the world's real wishes; peace, living their lives and enjoying what we have. We only live once and need to leave this world in the way we found it, for generations to come.

Written In Stone -  Originally to be called "Get a Grip", this is a song which looks harshly on those who "sponge" from the state, thinking their life is tough, but do very little themselves to try and improve matters. The song suggests they should take a look at the heroes of the past, those that fought through world wars and suffered "real" hardship, including what it did to their loved ones. They are the true heroes now "written in stone". The song urges lazy folks to do something heroic and set a legacy, before they too die and are written in stone with nothing to show for it.

Written On The Wind - You have a feeling for what's right or wrong but have a fear for confusion or the unknown. But look more closely for the answers, make a plan and you will succeed; success is written on the wind. Stick to your plan, avoid the winds of change and seek clarification.

Waiting For The Storm - A warning that stormy times are ahead. Financial pressures that won't end and a realisation that we need to heed the warning signs or accept the dire consequences. Aimed at political decisions about climate change and military deployment in early 2026.

Winter Skyscape - Set in Knowl Hill and Littlewick Green in Berkshire as well as Ribchester in Lancashire, the video depicts the love of winter silhouettes, nature and wildlife during our coldest months. Footage of Alaska, Canada and Scotland compliment the captivating full-length video.

Whiskey Out West - Southern Rock song depicting a proud truck driver leaving the famous JD whisky distillery in Lynchburg Tennessee and heading to California. Duet, in conjunction with VeryT.

Waves We Ride - Inspired by a poster set into a frame on a wall in an Air B&B holiday let in Sandgate, Kent, UK. Emotional feelings are waves that come and go and like those in the sea, we can choose which ones to ride and which ones to ignore. Other lyrics in the song reflect a ride on the lovely Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway, as part of the same holiday trip.
